What’s in a picture?

A picture’s worth a thousand words. Behind gifted eyes, is a vision, a gentle whisper from the heart, an artist’s soul. Like the deafening silence in a vibrant dream,

…every picture tells a story with a different point of view.

The Journal of Fine Imagery is written and produced by Will Wiriawan.

Photography is a multi-discipline practice that involves art, science, technology and philosophy. It is also a never-ending visionary construct, much like a poet in a visual form whose stillness is vibrant with meanings beyond words.

Mastering a photographic skill goes beyond knowing your camera, or knowing your object of passion. It’s an endless journey, the kind that when you get somewhere, you realize that you need to pack your bag again and keep moving to the next destination. It’s not the destination that keeps you going, but rather the joy of the journey.

This journal is a personal documentation of that journey.

Like a soulful vacation, traveling to a new place means plenty of surprises; for the strangers we meet, the sun, the rain and the rainbow that would render our vacation picture perfect. The journey is uncertain, but one thing is: not knowing how does not mean we do not know where we want to be.

The journey is long, but our time is short; one would hope that this journal can carry on a tradition of sharing, of passions, of dreams, and excellence, to learn and educate this hungry soul.

This is the very purpose of our creative journey: we learn things and pass it on.

What you’ll find here.

This is an ongoing endeavor of discovering and mastering the craft of photography; a discipline that invokes our curious nature on multiple levels, a skill that intertwines with art, science, technology and philosophy.

Beside original writings on said fields, you will also find links, commentaries and quotes on the Opinions Page, Postscripts, Quotes. Also, from time to time, a picture or two would make their way to the Photostream page where I collect interesting stuffs that I’d like to show you, the photos here often are taken by my iPhone.

A growing collection of wallpapers or desktop art are on the Goodies page. You can download, use, play and share it whatever you want it, so long you don’t harm or charge others to pay for it. No credit is needed, just pass it along.

And when you run out of things to read, the Archive is where you can find the entire entries, all in its shame and glory.

On the other hand…

If you are here for PORTFOLIO — the little outlet my photography practice goes by, the bio page can be found here. If you are curious about more geeky stuffs:

Disclosure

Because they make beautiful, thoughtful & useful products that make my life easier and very enjoyable, I almost exclusively use Mac.

I own and use Canon gears as my professional tool, not because I’m a fanatic, but because my first camera was a Canon and all of my lenses are Canon, I’m married without knowing the bride that time, so I have to deal with her.

I conduct workshops, seminars and engage in speaking arrangements from time to time, and I often speak about Apple’s or Canon’s products, I do so because that’s what I know well. I don’t get paid by those companies but I do get perks like early tests of upcoming products, or not-for-resale individual software licenses.

This site is a registered affiliate with Amazon, iTunes & Graph Paper Press, I get a little kickback for every purchase you make from the link here. I will only recommend stuffs that I use myself or find interesting, I would never write about something that I don’t find cool or anything less than a million dollar.
