What’s in a picture?

A picture’s worth a thousand words. Behind gifted eyes, is a vision, a gentle whisper from the heart, an artist’s soul. Like the deafening silence in a vibrant dream,

…every picture tells a story with a different point of view.

Rioter in Tahrir Square, Egypt, Feb 6 2011

Andrew Burton decides to fly himself to Egypt to capture the action, despite the lack of financial support from any of his future publisher(s):

My flight to Egypt was a self funded trip that was equal parts me learning the ropes, and me trying to document what I find to be an incredibly important news story. I have no interest in portraying myself as something I’m not — this is my first real step into conflict (whatever you want to call it) photography. […] This blog will end up being some sort of public diary showing the learning curve I am going through as I learn how to handle situations like this — in my writing, I have decided I’m going to be totally honest about my fears, train of thought, and the lessons I learn along the way.

Lest we forget the heart of the matter, why, we need good journalism, and why journalism needs a spirit like that of Andrew’s, and why, publishers and news organizations should never be stingy.
